A study was carried out to examine, whether and how the construction process plays a role when assessing light situations. In order to test its existence a setup was created to provoke a breach of expectations that test persons might have, when entering and exploring a lighting scenario. Fifty-one participants were interviewed to assess five lighting scenarios at four different stages. First results show, that test persons used the rules of construction because they reported confusion when light source and light pattern did not match with the expected combination of cause and effect.
