In 2013 Polish Air Force have decided to continue the operation of the ageing Su-22 "Fitter" fighter-bomber. Currently, Air Force Institute of Technology (in cooperation with Military Aviation Works no. 2 JSC) finalizes implementation of an ASIP and modernization program aimed at service life extension for the Su-22. Main task for the institute is to determine the feasibility of the program and the safety for the extended service. The program includes flight tests, a Full Scale Durability Test, and operational loads monitoring (OLM). The program is focused on the double-seater version of the Fitter. Flight tests results and detailed calculation of the load distribution have served as a basis for the FSDT load sequence. Moreover, a fully instrumented, operational "leader" aircraft serves as an additional source of information about the flight profile and operation of the newly implemented OLM system. Detailed data about the actual operation and mission profiles, as well as additional durability tests are necessary for aircraft service life extension programs. In the paper, a life extension program for an aging, soviet-made fighter-bomber operated by the Polish Air Force is described. Some of the operated combat and trainer aircraft were selected for life extension. The trainers are of special interest because they accumulate significantly more landing - take-off cycles in their lifetime than the combat variant. Because of that, OLM system built around the SSR-500 Data Acquisition Recorder has been installed in six combat-trainer aircraft. The system monitors loads in areas of the airframe such as landing gear attachment points, main wing attachment points (8 strain gauge channels). The system also records 3 components of acceleration. Based on the recorded load time histories as well as g-force dynamics the life depletion rate can be assessed. The total service life reserve is determined during the Full Scale Durability Test results. Load analysis for the rest of the aircraft is done solely based on the classic flight data recorder parameters (not strain-gauge signals). This is done by relating the actual flight profile to the FSDT results. So far, the implemented analyses suggest that the life extension program is a success.
