In order to prevent the landslide, an effective monitoring system is proposed in this study. A practical slope in Shenzhen, whose stability is significantly influenced by rainfall, has been selected for site investigation. Comprehensive numeric simulation of this slope is conducted to discuss the mechanism of landslide, which is mainly attributed to rainfall intensity, duration and geological properties of slope. A modified rainfall intensity-duration curve has been proposed for obtaining the critical rainfall intensity and duration value for slope stability, as well as the relationship between safety factor and slope displacement. Meanwhile, a wireless landslide monitoring system composed of varieties of sensors, including obliquity, liquid level, soil moisture, soil temperature sensors and rainfall gauge is proposed according to simulation and investigation results in this study. It is expected that this monitoring system could send out early-warning information and reduce the damage of landslide.
