In the SrO-Si-SrCl_2 system, 4 compounds are known. These are Sr_4Si_3O_8Cl_4, Sr_5SiO_4Cl_6, Sr_5(Si_2O_7)Cl_4 and Sr_8(SiO_3)_4Cl_8. Luminescent properties of Sr_4Cl_4Si_3O_8 have been studied to some extent. However, other members of the system have not been explored for luminescence applications. There is virtually no work on luminescence in Sr_5(Si_2O_7)Cl_4. In this paper synthesis and photoluminescence in Sr_5(Si_2O_7)Cl_4 doped with Ce~(3+) is reported.
