MicroChannel reactor systems show great promise in their application to gas-to-liquids applications. Both the steam reforming and the Fischer-Tropsch processes are amenable to improvement by use of a microchannel reactor. Velocys has built and operated microchannel steam reformers that show exceedingly high heat fluxes and process intensification. Their performance has been shown to be stable for several months of operation, demonstrating both device and process stability. The advantages of microchannel steam reformers are most obvious where space constraints are significant, but microchannel systems also have performance advantages compared to conventional systems that make them attractive for any GTL installation.
