Education is a very important part of people's lives, whether for young people who gain knowledge and experience, or even adults who develop those they already have. The level of education of each individual helps him/her to improve the application of both regular as well as professional life. With the development of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in the last twenty years new educational methods have been developed that make use of ICTs. The most valuable capital of knowledge society is education and creativity. The condition for competitiveness and development of the knowledge society is capable, appropriately educated and skilled individuals. This required knowledge and skills can be provided as part of the education of pupils and students as well as further training of people who have completed the formal education process. ICTs make a major contribution to lifelong learning opportunities. Building a knowledge society is based on, besides other things, quality human resources that are capable of reasonable use of available ICTs to increase their benefit in professional as well as private life. Building a knowledge society requires, besides other changes, to change the education system with a focus on creativity, innovation and ability to independently deal with problems. Digital literacy is equally important, i.e. the ability to understand information and use it in various forms, which are presented through ICTs. The onset of globalization is necessarily associated with the growth of education. Education is a long-term process, conditioned by many factors, but it alone in itself has a great potency and ability in a relatively short time to change the overall standard of living. Its acquisition should not only be on the school level, but in the knowledge society it should certainly hold plenty of space also outside of the institutionalized process. The aim of this paper is to look at these facts from different angles.
