This paper aims to investigate the liquid-solid flow characteristics in the pipeline by employing the commercial Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) code Fluent 19.0. To validate the simulation model, the two-layer model and the experiment by Matousek (2002) are cited and the relevant experimental data are compared with the Fluent model. The pressure drop characteristics will be investigated in this paper and the pressure gradient valley-point, which has a profound meaning of the solid-liquid flow transportation, appears around the conversion point of the flow pattern of the solid-liquid flow, and the different flow patterns are analyzed to explain the valley-point better as well. Besides, various sizes of the particles were included in the model, which means the influence of different sizes of the sand mixing on the solid-liquid flow characteristics were investigated.
