摘要

The development of solar Photovoltaic (PV) has been very rapid and successful in Massachusetts (MA) over recent years. This paper makes an economic analysis of supporting policies for residential solar PV in MA using a case study from Boston metro area. It Finds that the net present value, the payback period and the internal rate of return of the project investigated are $49,474.56, 6 years and 19.0% respectively, which compare favorably with those from past studies on United States, Europe and China. Furthermore, a scenario analysis of seven policies affecting the profitability of solar PV investment and a sensitivity analysis of the profitability responding to changes of four key parameters are conducted. Finally, a conclusion is drawn that the rapid development of residential PV in MA is mainly driven by high profitability from the incentives, especially Solar Renewable Energy Certificate, and the substantial decrease in installed prices of PV.
