Positive lightning strokes during long thunderstorms in Central Yakutia

The parameters of thunderstorms in the Central Yakutia were studied by lightning electromagnetic radiation detection in 2009-2019. The data on the very low frequency radiation were detected by the Stormtracker, single-point sensor, and the WWLLN. After the stage of the highest lightning rate, there was an increase in the rate of positive cloud-to-ground lightning strokes relative to its value at the peak of total stroke rate. This increase in the rate of positive cloud-to-ground strokes was observed in 40-60% of thunderstorms lasting longer than 1 hour. The probable cause is the development of a thunderstorm producing system, weakening of vertical flows and the displacement of the upper positive charged part of the clouds relative to the lower negatively charged part.
