An analytical theory which analysesdiscontinuous and continuous recovery, recrystallization andgrain growth in single and two-phase alloys has beendeveloped. The theory is used as the core in a model of theannealing of deformed two-phase alloys in which coarsening ortransformation of the second phase by volume or boundarycontrolled diffusion is considered. The model is applied to theisothermal annealing of Al-Si, Al-Zr and Al-Mn alloys andpredicts complex annealing behaviour in these materials,which is consistent with experimental observations.
