Steel plates with heavy gauge, which are mainly applied for large steel structures, areconsequently subjected to improving low temperature toughness in welded joints as well as inbase plates. Firstly introduced is the outline of TMCP including DQ-T, CR-DQ-T and DQ-L-Tprocesses, and their recent progress in new types of steel plates with excellent weldability and withseismic resistance. Another new style of steel plates, which can lead to the new era of High TechSteels, with high crack arrestability has been developed by inventing brand-new SUF plates(Surface layers with Ultra Fine grains), developing the advanced TMCP. The advanced TMCP isaccelerated cooling process in the midst of rolling, while the general one is that after rolling. Theenhanced formation of shear-lips associated with extensive plastic deformation at the surfaces ofSUF plates can provide excellent fracture toughness even at very low temperatures.
