摘要

Polycrystalline diamond films (PDF) were deposited onto tungsten substrates using the microwave plasma-enhanced CVD method. Reciprocating dry sliding friction tests were performed using a right cylinder (PDF coated) on flat (PDF coated) geometry. The frictional behaviour of the PDF surfaces in dry sliding contact exhibit two distinct regimes; a high initial transitory response decaying to a steady state behaviour. This particular transitory behaviour, known as break-in, is an inherent characteristic of PDF surfaces and is nearly independent of the grain size of the film or the applied normal load. Raman spectroscopy indicates a higher graphitic content in the post-worn PDF as compared to the as-deposited film. This phase change is discussed in relationship to the "break-in" and steady state frictional behaviour for PDF dry sliding contact.
