Naturally-occurring hyperadrenocorticism in dogs is a well recognized endocrine disorder. Over the past 20 years, various facets of canine hyperadrenocorticism have been reported in abstracts, referreed publications, other published manuscripts and in a plethora of continuing education lectures. The positive result of these developments is an increased awareness and a better understanding of the disorder among members of the veterinary community. There is, therefore, a greater liklihood that dogs afflicted with hyperadrenocorticism will be identified. Thus, more pituitary-adrenal function studies are being performed on dogs and this medical problem is being diagnosed and treated with improving confidence. As expected with an ever increasing number of dogs so diagnosed, our experience in management of the syndrome has improved and this knowledge has stimulated a variety of new questions or concerns.
