The use of databases and interactive tools has enabled filmmakers to discover new ways of authoring. This paper reveals the research and thought that preceded the design of an interactive documentary about a cocktail-lounge band that played hard-core punk songs. The decision to create a system where the presentation database "learns" from each viewer's choice, was as much a way to best accommodate the particularities of the band as it was a way to find the most effective medium to represent youth culture and all of its dynamism.
