摘要

Simulative fetting testing requuires accurate measurement of the system resonse, e.g., static and dhyamic coefficients of friction. In this investigation, experimental tests are conducted to demonstrtrate that unlenss the dynamic characteristics of the tribometer is taken into consideration, the friction measurement error could be significant enough to produce unrealistic results. A lumped parameter model was also developed to simulate the dynamic characteristics of the tribo-system. This model, which has been validated experimentally, allows us to correct for the friction measurements. THe model and experimental measurements sjowed that if the fretting tribometer is operating at the force transducer provices a direct measurement of the friction force. TGhrough proper design considerations, the accuracy o f friction measurement can significantly be improved by eliminating the inertia and spring forces from containating the friction measurements. Two different designs of tretting wear test equipment are presented and discussed.
