In investigation of motor vehicle fire, investigators were necessary to determine to whether these molten marks are caused by electrical failures or fire. The molten marks under several sets of experimental conditions were evaluated by observing their appearance and the metallographic structure, making the elementary analysis of section by Electron Probe Micro Analyzer (EPMA). As a result, the appearance, the metallographic structure, and the elementary concentration differs depending on the formation processes of molten marks. However, the elementary analysis with EPMA is useful as a means to determine the conditions around the melting.
