Recently, in the field of road traffic, the information provided for driver is rapidly increasing with the approach of ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems). Route guidance is a typical example of the information provided on navigation systems. In route guidance, it is important to consider if the displaying method is easy to recognize from the viewpoint of spatial cognition. However, some reports suggest that there is a difference in spatial cognition between men and women, and the current method is mainly advantageous for men. The goal of this paper is to examine sex differences in spatial cognition, and to propose a driver-adaptive, customized route guidance display that is suitable especially for women. In this paper, we present important components for route guidance, and measure the use frequency of cognitive map items by experiment. Then, we propose a way of navigation for women in consideration of the sex differences.
