As more industries implement Product Data Management (PDM) solutions, the need for better project management tools in this area has never been more evident. This paper introduces techniques based on Quality Function Deployment (QFD) principles that assist project leaders in identifying strengths and weaknesses during PDM implementations. By identifying weaknesses early in PDM implementations, managers have an opportunity to take corrective measures before weaknesses translate into long-term problems after the system becomes fully implemented. The techniques are completely presented, as well as an actual case study where the long-term strengths and weaknesses of a PDM system were accurately predicted using the techniques.
