Integrating MIDAS and ELIST into the AMP HLA Federation

USTRANSCOM utilizes a variety of models to support transportation analysis, however; their current models run independently and are not linked together except by manual methods or by brittle, explicit system-to-system interfaces. USTRANSCOM funded the development of a prototype HLA federation to demonstrate the feasibility and benefits of federating its current models and using the federation as the basis for future development. Using the current AMP system as a base, the development team created a HLA federation of the ELIST and MIDAS models and added a third federate to display the results of model interactions. This paper will describe how we achieved a successful outcome, at low cost and in a short time, as a result of using the HLA, tightly coupling the development teams and capitalizing on our previous experiences with linking the systems involved.
