摘要

There is unquestionable clinical evidence that pulsatile flow improves the quality of extracorporeal perfusion. A newly conceived pulsatile blood pump device is presented in this abstract, for use during the cardiopulmonary by-pass (CPB). Its relevant features are intended to overcome the factors that today limit the use of pulsatile blood pumps, which are mainly complexity and costs of the devices. The study of the device includes solid CAD and computational, coupled analyses of the fluid (blood side) and the solid domains (pumping membrane and valves), by means of a fluid-structure interaction approach. Optimization of the geometry of the device as well as the pumping membrane behavior has been sought. Furthermore a working prototype of the investigated device has been realized and tested so as to validate numerical results.
