Transport plays a key role in economic development and integration; the efficiency of a region's ports can have a major impact on competitiveness throughout the region. The Northern Adriatic ports have significant potential to contribute to regional prosperity based on regional Cupertino for transport infrastructure development and port policy. This must be pursued at the levels of both governments and economic operators. Because the Northern Adriatic area was divided after the Second World War into two entirely different political and economic systems, competitive advantages were not fully exploited. Due to the process of integration, this region has become an important link between Eastern European markets and the global (central member states of the EU) European economic system.
