Designers of high speed Digital Signal Processing (DSP) applications are finding that FPGAs with dedicated hardware for DSP functions can be used to address real time audio and video applications. Because FPGAs can use multiple and parallel hardware resources for data processing, performance in excess of that achievable with processor based DSP approaches can be realized. A new reference design platform for real time audio and video applications is now available from QuickLogic to help evaluate and design these types of systems. Included in the platform are a series of software tools and IP that help speed development. The QuickLogic IP Wizard assists designers in selecting, configuring and instantiating a variety of pre-designed cores for DSP applications. The QuickFILTER program speeds implementation of various FIR filters. MATLAB and Simulink code can be processed by the QuickMACH complier to further speed development. A real time audio/video reference design will be used to illustrate the capabilities of the platform and will be demonstrated in the Reference Design Village.
