The proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is one of the strongest contenders as a power source for powering future cars, residential areas and small combined power units due to their modular construction and the high energy densities that can be attained. In this study, a H2-O2 PEMFC was constructed and effects of cell temperature, humidification temperature of gases, flow rates of gases and flow rate ratio of O2 to H2 on the performance were investigated. It was found that performance increases significantly with increasing temperature of cell and humidification temperature. High O2 to H2 flow rate ratio had also a positive effect on the performance up to an extent. On the other hand, excess flow rate of gases decreased the performance.
