Solubility of permanent gases and C1-C3 hydrocarbons are presented in two fluoropolymers, TFE/PMVE49 and Hyflon AD 80. These polymers exhibit inherently lower solubility for hydrocarbon penetrants than typical hydrocarbon polymers. This property might make fluoropolymers potentially resistant to plasticization induced by large hydrocarbon penetrants such as those found in natural gas streams. The CO2/CH4 separation performance of the two fluoropolymers are also compared with currently considered commercial membrane materials for CO2 removal from natural gas.
