Operation ReLeaf is a Residential Tree Program that works with local County Conservation Boards and/or Resource Conservation & Development, Inc. Councils (Local Project Coordinators) through out the State of Iowa to provide affordable, high-quality and diverse landscape trees (3-8') for Alliant Energy households to plant on their property for long term community reforestation. Trees are ordered in bulk numbers from local nurseries to keep cost low and then distributed at centralized locations throughout the State to minimize transportation costs. Local service groups are on site bagging and handing out free wood chip mulch that is provided by Alliant Energy Line Clearance crews. Investment by resident is required by paying 1/2 of the tree costs to encourage ownership and long term maintenance. Tree recipients are given instructions on how to plant and care for their trees. There is no warranty or guarantee on these trees. The number of trees an Alliant Energy customer may purchase is initially limited to two trees per household to ensure that all participants have an opportunity to purchase trees, hi the event that there are additional trees available on day of distribution, those trees will be released for purchase at that time. Alliant Energy customers are also encouraged to visit their local nursery and garden centers for additional plant material and supplies. Program announcements though press releases, advertising and public service efforts are used to increase tree planting awareness and encourage the education of tree selection and care.
