摘要

Optical radiation hazards of scanning light sources are often evaluated using pulsed light source criteria. Relevant pulse parameter equivalent to the scanning light source can be determined by the energy delivered through a measurement aperture, of which the location should be carefully chosen. Using a numerical analysis based upon the melanin granule model, thermal effects of scanning and pulsed light sources through a measurement aperture in the pigmented retinal layer have been proved not to be identical even when the delivered optical energies are the same. This study considers irradiations from scanning laser beyond the measurement aperture to calculate pulse parameters that produce equal damage threshold of a scanning laser. Depending on the scanning length and speed, damage threshold of a scanning laser is significantly different from that of a pulsed laser. Adjustment to the pulse parameters is discussed.
