The objective of this work was to design, build, and test an air-cooled counter-current fin-on-plate condenser/heat exchanger for heat rejection in geothermal power plants. This work experimentally investigated the coupled processes of heat and mass transfer in film condensation of steam in forced flow through a fin-on-plate condenser. A prototype air-cooled, fin-on-plate heat exchanger was designed and constructed for evaluation at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's (NREL) test facility. The results of this study show that the air-side heat-transfer coefficient with this unit was more than 50% higher than those obtained by tube-and-fin condensers for the same pressure drop across the unit.
