From the hydrochemical point of view the Los Humeros geothermal field is a complex system. It has been subject of research work in several aspects. A very important conclusion of this work has been to recognize the occurrence of two hydrothermal reservoirs. A shallow liquid rich reservoir with temperatures between 300°C and 340°C and a deep vapor rich reservoir with low liquid saturation and temperature above 300°C and below 380°C. The former is located between 1600 and 1025 masl and the latter between 850 masl and 100 masl. Fluid geochemistry shows the occurrence of a mixture of fluids; in the shallow reservoir fluids are of the bicarbonate type and fluids from the deep reservoir are of the sodium chloride type. Pressure distribution tests and hydrothermal mineralogy have been very useful to confirm the occurrence of two reservoirs in Los Humeros geothermal field.
