Force-on-Force MS of System-of-Systems Capabilities for Manned and Unmanned Systems in the Objective Force

The Army Aviation Warfighting Center (AWC), the Army Materiel Systems Analysis Activity (AMSAA), and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) are collaborating in the evolution of the Advanced Tactical Combat Model (ATCOM) into a tool capable of addressing the transformational capabilities of the future Objective Force. This paper discusses the evolution of ATCOM and planned future simulation enhancements that include modernizing Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Information, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) architectures, expanding autonomous behaviors for unmanned systems, implementing system-of-systems behaviors, establishing capabilities to model military operations in urban terrain (MOUT), and developing mission planning interfaces. The goal is to provide a more realistic representation of the battlefield and the dynamics of combat in a user friendly M&S environment that has broad application to the current and future challenges presented by Objective Force system-of-systems concepts.
