摘要

Migratory nematodes in soil cause significant damage to a range of crops such as potatoes, carrots, cereals, as well as being vectors of virus diseases such as tobacco rattle virus in potatoes. This paper reviews the changes in Scottish population levels of several plant pathogenic nematode species over the last 11 seasons and how this has impacted on the management of nematodes in several crops. The introduction of a diagnostic test for detecting tobacco rattle virus (the causative agent of spraingin potatoes) in trichodorid nematodes has allowed an initial snapshot to be obtained of the prevalence of the virus in fields used for potato production in Scotland. The implications of virus incidence for the management of spraing in potatoes is discussed, along with current and future management options for other soil migratory nematodes.
