A variety of rare congenital malformations of the nose and midface exist, the more commonly known being hare lip cleft and coanal atresia. The majority of these malformations, clefts, fistulas, and tumours, however, are extremely rare. In order to understand the developmental background for the formation of these malformations, it is essential to have a comprehensive knowledge to the embryology of the midface. This is illustrated with a rich variety of the rare malformations.
