The poor reproducibility in terms of survival and growth during both the yolk sac and the first feeding period is partly attributed to negative interactions between larvae and bacteria (Vadstein et al., 1993). Because fish larvae , during their earlylife stages, establish their bacterial flora partially by a non selective manner, it is of outstanding importance what types of bacteria inhabit the environment of the larvae (Cahill, 1990). This study was designed to produce marine water with a stabilized microbial environment to be used in fish larval rearing.
