摘要

Abalones are commercially and economically important gastropod around the world with high market values, declining in natural stocks. Developments on seed production techniques in the hatchery are being refined (Cai et al. 2006). However, survival rate remains very low (Gallardo and Buen 2003). The induction of larval settlement is a most critical stage in abalone recruitment in the wild and in seed production in culture. Abalone larvae require highly specific cues for attachment and metamorphosis stimulation. The use of biological substances such as mucus, have been tested and evaluated to be an effective larval settlement inducers for abalone (Gallardo and Buen 2003). It was reported that abalone utilized bacterial flora found in the mucus as foodwhat may facilitate larval settlement (Slattery 1992). In this study, we isolated and identify the different bacteria and characterized the dominant species associated in the mucus of juvenile and adult abalone Haliotis discus hannai and tested its effect on the larval settlement.
