We review some predictions of modem self-consistent mean-field models con-cerning the shell structure and fission barriers of superheavy elements. Several parametrizalions for each mean-field model are chosen to obtain a measure for the uncertainties in the extrapolations. The various forces agree on global trends but differ in detailed predictions of magic numbers and inner fission barrier heights.
