This paper shares the findings of using the objectives of the United Nations Decade (2005-2014) of Education for Sustainable Development (UNDESD) to address the challenge of recording and evaluating behaviour change. This challenge is one that affects all environmental practitioners and government bodies. The case study, using Hornsby Shire Council's (Sydney, Australia) earthwise at home program demonstrates that by using the UNDESD objectives and working in a transdisciplinary and reflective way with stakeholders a tailored program that meets specific needs and expectations of the community with demonstrable measurable and replicable results is achievable. This design and delivery methodology has resulted in A program with a clear vision and evaluation that attracts intergovernmental and private partnerships for delivery plus attracts additional state funding. Increasing numbers of residents making change to reduce their use of non-renewable resources. Individuals reporting additional shifts in values and attitudes relating to resource consumption.
