摘要

Bromate is a disinfection by-product of water treatment created when drinking water containing bromide is treated with ozone for hazardous microbial control. Bromate has been classified as a potential carcinogen. The lifetime exposure risk is estimated to be 10~(-4) for drinking water containing 5 μg/L of bromate and 10~(-5) at 0.5 μg/L . In 1998, under Stage 1 Disinfectants/Disinfection By-products (D/DBP) Rules promulgated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the maximum contaminant level (MCL) for bromate was set at 10 μg/L and the maximum contaminant level goal (MCLG) was set at zero. Further reducing MCL was under consideration.
