Fault tree analysis is a widely used method for reliability evaluation and fault diagnosis. Fault tree is a simple, visual, popular and standardized notation for representing relationships between a fault in a system and the associated events. Moreover, it is not clear how to adapt the fault tree to represent temporal relationships between fault and events in reliability analysis of dynamic systems. Another problem that prevents more analytical use of fault trees is their lack of rigorous semantics. In this paper, we use techniques to perform qualitative analysis of temporal fault tree to detect the causes of the top events fault. We research an example of missile explosion in emissive canister and establish its temporal fault tree. After analyzing depth-first traversal of a fault tree and cut-set method, we use them in our simulation example.
