The Attitude and Orbit Control System (AOCS) software is responsible for controlling the attitude and the orbit of satellites. Traditional design approach of AOCS software was based on interrupt handling procedures, and this approach was costly and inefficient, whereas AOCS software with the support of Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) has high reliability, portability and extensibility. The hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) simulation system for AOCS software provides a closed loop developing and testing environment for the AOCS software. Its hardware contains a host computer and an on-board computer. Its software includes Matlab/Simulink/RTW and a RTOS named SAtellite Controller Operating System (SACOS). Matlab/Simulink/RTW generates source code that can be compiled under SACOS and the executable image is downloaded to the on-board computer for simulation. The HWIL simulation system combines the flexibility of Matlab/Simulink/RTW with the real-time ability of SACOS. It can be used to qualify the AOCS software.
