Efficient conversion of methane to C2+ hydrocarbons would be a significant breakthrough in C1 chemistry. The ability to efficiently convert methane to ethane and ethylene is primarily based on an efficient catalyst, but process conditions are also important. In this presentation results from several proprietary catalysts which produce C2+ yields equal to or greater than 25% are presented. Several of the catalyst also results in C2+ yields of 29 and 30%. In addition a very crude kinetic and reactor model is used to estimate the performance of an adiabatic reactor with interstage cooling. The model predicts that C2 yields of 30 to 35% may be feasible.
