ArcelorMittal Tubarao former CST was established in 1976 as a State controlled joint-venture, with minority ownership of the Kawasaki group, from Japan and the Ilva group (former Finsider), from Italy. However, only in November, 1983 the Blast Furnace #1 began the first campaign. Due to integrated efforts of maintenance, operation and engineering teams, Blast Furnace #1 reached the relevant mark of 28,4 years of uninterrupted operation with an expressive mark of about 94 million tons of hot metal in a unique campaign, which is considered world benchmark in hot metal production, with a high operational performance, high productivity and low fuel consumption.
