Industry 4.0 is one of today's mega trends. Industry 1.0 allowed replacing man-power by machine power, Industry 2.0 divided work into multiple small steps, which can be performed by humans or machines. This opened the door to mass production at a low price. With Industry 3.0 machines became more flexible by using computers to control them and to connect them into one production facility. Industry 4.0 is the next, big step. The big difference is communication and smart interaction between machines, sensors, gauges and humans. This allows the realization of smart factories, reacting on actual production situations, digital supply chains and new business models. Beside production capacity and capability, quality is one of the most important controlling factors.
