The p-version of the boundary element method (BEM) is extended to three-dimensional problems. The extension uses a weakly singular form of the gradient integral identity which does not require special integral interpretations so that numerical integration may be used exclusively for any type of element. Numerical examples on a tetrahedron and a sphere support the accuracy of the formulation. The former example is chosen to demonstrate that the method is highly effective for edges and corners which are commonly problematic for the BEM and the latter demonstrates the suitability of the method for surfaces with curvature modeled with elements showing significant variation in the Jacobian.
