This paper describes dividing method of product model data for distributed CAM. Appropriate dividing methods are shown for two typical tool path types which are scanning path and spiral path, and those methods are compared by considering geometric feature of tool path. The result of comparison shows that the dividing method for spiral path is not suitable for calculation of tool offset surface. Processing time of distributed CAM for scanning path is analyzed based on simplified processing model. The minimum value of processing time is indicated by the result of the analysis, that is, there is an optimum number of division. In result of experiments of distributed processing, there is a specific number of division by which the processing time can be minimized in fact.
