Butterworth and Brandao (2005) describe the historical development and assessments of the present status of the Namibian orange roughy (Hoplostethus atlanticus) and the Patagonian toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides) off South Africa's sub-Antarctic Prince Edward Islands. This paper sets out the methodologies, based on the age-structured production model (ASPM) approach, which have been used to assess these resources. Common methodology is set out under general headings, within which the differencesin the methodology applied for the two stocks are detailed under sub-headings for each.
