Phenol is one of the organic pollutants in soil. For remediation of phenol contarr.inated soil, lab scale studies were carried out on Fenton oxidation and bioremediation processes at 100 and 500 mg of phenol/kg of soil. In Fenton oxidation process, effects of pH, H_2O_2, water content and contact time on remediation of soil was studied. The maximum efficiency of 94.3 %, and 90.2% was observed for 100 and 500 mg of phenol / kg of soil respectively. In bioremediation, Pseudomonas dismolyticum was used as inoculum. The maximum efficiency of 86.2 % and 83.2 % was observed for 100 and 500 mg of phenol / kg of soil respectively. The results indicated that Fenton oxidation was effective at 100 and 500 mg of phenol / kg of soil. Bioremediation, was less effective at 500 mg of phenol / kg of soil, because high concentration of phenol was toxic to microorganisms.
