Machinery vibration monitoring has been in practice since the 1950's. These efforts have historically been focused on predicting machinery failure and failure diagnostics. With the advent of new Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technologies, tightly coupled analog and digital I/O, and embedded measurement software, new opportunities for measurements, analysis and protection are now available to OEMs, and end users.
