Some patients suffering from a fracture of the femoral neck have latent risk factors for surgical intervention, and often develop further deterioration of locomotive function even after successful internal fixation. We developed a combined treatment system consisting of (1) an external fixation device for the fracture with a universal hip joint and (2) an assistive walking device with body weight support for such patients. With this less invasive fracture fixation device and gait assistive system it is possible for the patients with a fracture of femoral neck to start immediate ambulation after operation.
