In order to assess the quality of strain image, we measured the non-uniformity of compression using a quality metric computed from the estimated displacements. Based on the quality metric, we regularized the strain image and improved the strain image quality by applying adaptive and motion-compensated persistence. We implemented a new regularization technique on a commercial clinical scanner to obtain quality strain images. By compensating for the non-uniformity of manual compression applied to elasticity phantoms and humans, we obtained real time strain images whose quality is uniform over all image regions.
