Haemostatic markers such as fibrinogen and von Willebrand factor (vWf) are involved in the development and progression of vascular disease. Endothelial dysfunction can be quantified by measuring homeostatic markers or by assessing flow mediated vasodilatation (FMD) in the brachial artery. The aim of this study was to compare the levels of vWF, fibrinogen and brachial FMD in hypertensive patients with and without atherogenic dyslipidemia and healthy controls and to study the relation between the mentioned endothelial dysfunction markers.We found statistically significant higher values for vWf and fibrinogen in hypertensive patients with and without atherogenic dyslipidemia compared to healthy controls (p<0.001). Endothelium-dependent vasodilatation was significantly impaired in hypertensive patients with and without atherogenic dyslipidemia (p<0.001).The measurement of brachial FMD and plasma homeostatic markers can be useful diagnostic tools to evaluate microvascular dysfunction in hypertensive patients.
