摘要

This work focuses on the development of prototypes using a CNC machining centre withthree continuous linear axes and one indexed rotary axis. It is also presented anapproach to the new format that is being developed to transfer data between theCAD/CAM software and the CNC controllers.This new data format known as STEP-NC aims to replace the current language (ISOcode G & M) for a new format that enables the communication between CNC controllersand CAD/CAM software, which is not possible currently.This paper presents the experimental work carried out to manufacture a prototype in aCNC machining centre, equipped with a rotation axis, in a single grip setup operation.The main advantage in this approach is that it avoids the traditional creation of multianchoragesof the part, keeping away the need for the presence of a machine operator.This method allows to have a great technological closeness characteristic between CNCmachining centres (using removal material methods) and rapid prototyping (by addinglayers), since both prototypes are obtained without the operator intervention during theentire construction.The practice tests were performed at the Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa(ISEL) and the part used in the tests was provided by a company specialized in theconstruction of aircraft components, the Lauak Portuguesa.
